Drawing on extensive historical research, the authors examine the lives of the young women who resided in the orphanages established by George and Mary Müller during the mid-nineteenth century. Their stories are woven together with the surviving samplers, providing a rich insight into the social history, education, and needlework traditions of the period. Colour illustrations are beautiful and include images of the patterns of their time and detailed images of samplers.
